The Power of …. Ginger

Surely, you have come across products with numerous studies promoting them and later condemning them, only to promote them again a few years later. Well, that is not going to happen with ginger. Ginger has got a stamp of approval verified by thousands of years of use for medicinal purposes.

 

Ginger is well regarded for its anti-inflammatory properties. It may help digestion and is used as nausea remedy. It has got ability to prevent blood from clotting and may therefore prevent heart attacks or strokes. Ginger is effective in fighting bacteria and fungal infections as well as preventing and treating diabetes.  Lately, ginger has also been widely promoted for reducing pain and treating cancer.

You cannot go wrong with ginger and there are many ways how to use it. Here you have got a few tips:

a)     Tea – grating fresh ginger will give you a strong brew;

b)     Smoothies – add 1 – 2 cm of fresh ginger to your smoothie mix;

c)      Pumpkin & ginger soup – boil pumpkin or butternut squash together with a piece of fresh ginger until soft, season with turmeric powder, ground black pepper, salt and some healthy oil/fat (olive, coconut, ghee). The pepper and fat makes the turmeric more absorbable. Blend to create a smooth cream. Sprinkle with some fresh coriander or parsley and roasted pumpkin seeds.

d)     Add powdered ginger into your favourite curry.

e)     Juice fresh ginger together with your fruit or veg.
